Please explain why the condition of homosexuality is a "flaw", how it can be "overcome through the atonement," and why it is equivalent to alcoholism or pedophilia.
It's a weakness of the flesh. It shares many characteristics in common with addiction. Gay sex is bad sex, and bad sex operates like a vice, addicting and enslaving the partaker, same as how porn of any orientation does. Through the atonement, all our weaknesses of the flesh are taken away in the resurrection, and if we repent of our sins, those are taken away too. I don't see homosexuality as outright equal to alcoholism or pedophilia, but I see some similarities in some areas. Using Mormon logic, there's simply no place for homosexuality in our theology, because we're all created in God's image and expected to mature to become like him, and he certainly isn't gay. He didn't create a certain class of his children to take a detour into same-gender relationships. Homosexuality is a human weakness that is made worse and more confusing by the devil's active temptation, just as with all other kinds of attempts to meet valid needs through invalid means.

I find it interesting how many assumptions that cannot be backed up by neither scripture nor absolute doctrine which are made by Mr Bigelow. I would challenge Mr Bigelow to find even one canonized reference which directly states that there is no place in Heaven for homosexuality? How about a canonized reference stating that God did not create some of his children as homosexuals? These are all assumptions being made from ignorance which are all too often all too common amongst the Lords Fold. We truth is that many of these truths have yet to be revealed!
I agree with GM. So many people (on both sides!) have assumptions and they take those assumptions as truth. And they aren't willing to truely challenge those assumptions because it messes with the little box they have put life and faith and God in.
So if homosexuality is a sin or weakness that can be overcome why am i still attracted to men even when all my other "sins" and "weaknesses" are taken care of by the atonement. Why is my homosexuality the only thing that isn't "fixed." Obviously it's not a weakness...

Ha ha. That is my favorite line. Real logic brings people to different conclusions, but I don't expect much from Mormons anymore. I remember what it was like to be bound by the Mormon paradigm.
Good thoughts here. I've slowly come to learn that God is not containable, and cannot be put in to a marketable little box as Mormonism sometimes does. God does seem to have a thing with diversity as can be seen in the world that was created for us to reside on.
A paradigm... Did God create the rose without the thorns?
