Sunday Hymn

Unable to resist a challenge, I recently posted here a couple of laughably pathetic re-writes of favorite Mormon hymn lyrics to be sung by a certain specialized segment of priesthood brethren. Very tongue in cheek. Bravone and Mike have implicitly dared me to try to keep going, I think. So why not see if I can reach new heights of low humor. Watch this space for further absurdity.

In the meantime, though, with Sunday approaching, I wanted to post a "family-specific" version of hymn lyrics that don't try to be funny but are sincerely heartfelt. This is to all of my brethren in the blogosphere with whom I've corresponded or swapped posts or comments, or who have lurked silently but (I hope) been helped by something I've written somewhere.

For the beauty of my bro's,
For the beauty in their eyes,
For the love that each one knows
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee I raise
This my hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of my friends,
For their hearts and helping hands,
Their support that never ends
Reaching out to many lands,
Lord of all, to thee I raise
This my hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of brothers' love,
Giv'n by God to each and all,
Friends on earth and friends above,
With them, standing proud and tall,
Savior, Lord, to thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

I think that you have proved yourself as a talented lyricist. If we were to meet in person, we would be really good friends, or at least I would really want to be your friend, have a big crush on you, and have little interest from you to be my friend. At least that is how I feel that my male friendships go.

When I first got married I worked at installing siding in construction. I worked with a guy who is SSA suspect, but married to an LDS girl. He knows all of the broadway musicals. ha, suspect for sure!

Anyway, we used to play this game where he would make up some random line or sentance and I would come up with a tune. We would come up with a few lines and together come up with a short, silly song. Not Gilbert and Sullivan quality, but we had good laughs over it.

Maybe someday you can be my lyricist and I could be your composer. :)

Alan, You amaze me. Your hymn touched me. Please keep it up. I will be the first to buy the leather bound copy.

I have some anthem suggestions:

Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel
We Are All Enlisted
Master the Tempest is Raging

hmmmm, could we do Called to Serve??

Nice lyrics Alan. I was taken by your choice in music on your playlist. Requiem for a Dying Song? Rock on. Flogging Molly has some of the best music. Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate you on good taste. :)

I've revised the last verse slightly. I realized that the original didn't scan or punctuate properly as compared to the first two, and I saw a way to re-emphasize the main point by changing the last one from an individual to a group thing. I thought that was a better way to end it.
